There are many different sources for interline travel information. To begin with check with your Pass Bureau. They will have the latest information regarding airline employee travel discounts on every airline they have agreements with. They can tell you who can travel on your travel benefits and for what price. They can also tell options on the best way to get to the destination of your choice. Usually parents and spouses qualify for most of these airline discounts but again, your Pass Bureau is your best source of information regarding your airline employee discounts on airline flights.
This will vary by the airline you work for, the airline or supplier you are traveling on, staying at or using. In all cases the employee and spouse plus dependent children (under 21 usually) will qualify for the interline travel discount. In 99% of the cases retired airline employees and their spouses will also qualify for the interline travel discount. In most cases parents of the employee will qualify for interline travel discounts. In some cases parents-in-law will qualify for interline travel discounts. You should always have proof of your eligibility with you to show upon request. This would include your airline ID if you are an active employee, a retiree travel card if you are an airline retiree, a spouses airline travel card for spouses and a letter of employment on airline letterhead stating the employees name and the names of the parents for parents and parent-in-laws of the employee. These letters should be dated within 6 months of when you are traveling so that they are current. Airline employees and spouses should also carry a letter verifying employment so that it could be copied by the supplier and attached to the reservation or file when checking in. The supplier may also require a copy of the employees ID badge as proof of eligibility. If you have any questions contact your airlines Pass Bureau, Human Resources Department, Supervisor or an Interline Travel Agency you are working with to book your airline employee travel discount.
There are many additional sources for interline travel information. There are specific travel agencies which specialize in working with airline employees. These agencies are known as "Interline Travel Agencies". The are several dozen of them in North America, a few in Europe and a couple in Australia and New Zealand. The largest ones are located in North America. If you find a travel agency which claims to offer "interline" discounts and does not have the site secured by requiring proof of eligibility to access the rates, then the rates you are seeing are probably not true "interline" discount rates. The suppliers, for the most part, do not allow these interline discounts to be shown on any website where the general public would have access to them. These discounts are controlled by the supplier and in some cases extremely low compared to what the public would pay. In most cases the suppliers, cruise lines in particular will require the authorized interline agency to submit to them a copy of your airline ID and a letter verifying your employment status within 48 hours of booking. Should you book an "interline" discount on a cruise and are not asked for your ID and letter, then you can pretty well be assured you did not book an actual "interline" discounted rate.
The largest online interline travel agency is InterlineTravel.com and you must submit proof of employment to get access to their members area. Per their website "In order to get a user name and password you should email us from an airline email address such as @aa.com, @ual.com, @fedex.com, etc or fax us at 817 488-6291 proof of employment status such as a copy of your airline ID, a letter of employment or a copy of a paystub. If you fax us please clearly print your email address on the fax and we will email you the access info." They are one of the only interline travel agencies that does not charge interliners a booking fee for booking interline cruises, interline tours or interline resorts. Most of the other interline agencies charge as much as $40 per person to book with them and often hide this fee in their price quote when you call their offices.
Most major cruise lines offer interline cruise discounts. These interline cruise discounts are extended to employees and in most cases the spouses and retirees of the airlines. In most cases parents of the employees also qualify for these interline cruise discounts. Some cruise lines also extend them to parents-in-laws of the employees. To book these interline cruise discounts you can ..... more
Some of the major chain hotels offer interline hotel discounts. Many do not. Your best bet for a domestic airline employee hotel discount is to find out where your flight crew overnights in the city you want to visit. Call that hotel and see if they will extend to you an airline employee hotel discount. If that does not work or is not an option, then calling any of the major chain hotels and inquiring about an interline hotel discount may result in a price. Calling their 800 number may also be an option but if that does not secure a discount contact the hotel directly. At InterlineTravel.com, in the members section, they do offer airline employee hotel discounts to the 10 brands that make up the Wyndham Hotel Group, which has 11,000 properties on six continents with the following hotel groups: Wyndham Hotels, Wingate, Super8, Ramada Inn, Kingsgate Inn, AmeriHost Inn, Howard Johnson, TravelLodge and Baymont Inn and Suites. All-Inclusive Resorts are one of the most popular interline vacations for airline employees. Most of the All-Inclusive Resorts in Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America offer an interline discount to their resort. Most all of them require you to contact one of their authorized interline agencies which handles their contracts, rates and reservations. While there are several interline agencies who will handle a few of these resorts, there are only about 4 or 5 in North America which handle almost all of the resorts which offer an interline discount to their hotel. Most of these interline agencies, again, will charge you a booking fee or service fee of up to $40 per person to book your interline all-inclusive resort discount. Many times this fee is not quoted when you first call to check on rates but is added in and is included in the cost they will quote you when they go to book you and tell you the price now includes "all taxes, fees and surcharges". As a result you may not know you are paying this extra fee.
Again there is one major interline travel agency which does not charge airline employees any booking fees when booking an all-inclusive resort at the airline employee discounted rate. That agency, is InterlineTravel.com which you can reach online or by calling 800 766-2911 or in the DFW Area call metro 817 481-8631. They have all of their resorts (over 300 of them in Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America) online where you can see pictures, get information, check all of the rates including the kids rates, quad rates, etc and even book yourself online at your interline resort discount and in many cases get your confirmation email immediately. Note they do have a $50 late booking fee if you are booking within 3 business days of arrival.
"Bump Protection" is a benefit of booking with an interline travel agency for most resorts in Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. While not all hotels offer "Bump Protection" the vast majority do. Check with your interline travel agency at the time of booking. There is no additional charge for this as it is negotiated by the interline travel agency with the resort at the time the interline discount rate contract is issued to the interline travel agency by the resort. What "Bump Protection" means is that if you get bumped from your flight going to the resort, you have to call either the interline travel agency you booked with or the resort, let them know you have been bumped and what date you will arrive. If you cancel your reservation you will, in most cases, be charged the cancellation penalty for that hotel for the time period you are traveling. However "Bump Protection" allows you to reschedule your trip, say to go in the next day and move your stay back by a day, without paying any additional charges or penalties. This is subject to room availability at the time you reschedule and there may be some other rules. Ask your Interline Travel Agency regarding the specifics of "Bump Protection".
